Important Changes to UK Gas Safety effective 1 April 2009  

From 1^st April 2009 gas safety in Great Britain will be the responsibility of The Gas Safe Register. This replaces the Corgi gas register.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will hold the brand ‘Gas Safe Register^TM‘ in trust to make sure it will remain the official mark for the gas safety register.

Until now the insurance market has accepted Corgi registration as being the benchmark for contractors working on gas installations. The HSE which has responsibility for regulation of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 has now granted  the Gas Safe Register the sole responsibility for holding the registration details of all certified contractors who are registered to undertake gas work in Great Britain and the Isle of Man.

What does it mean for CORGI registered businesses?

The Corgi gas register in Great Britain ends on 31 March 2009. There has been a publicity campaign to notify those working in the trade of the pending change and the need for them to register to carry on work and comply with the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations 1998.

Where can you get more information about this change?

All Corgi registered fitters should have been notified in writing by both Corgi and/or the Gas Safety Register administrators. The main advertising campaign to notify consumers will be commencing soon.
